COOPERATION BETWEEN PARENTS AND SHOOL

WHAT BOOKS DID OUR PARENTS READ IN THE PAST?
AN INTERVIEW - HOMEWORK

We got  the homework  to make an interview with our parents and find out what they were reading  while they attended the school.
I talked with my parents  about reading during their education. They attended school in the late eighties.
Did you have to read books every month during the school year?
Yes, we had an obligation to read books like you have today. But it seems that we had more respect to our school duties. We had to read a book and then write an analysis with a pen. Everything had to be very formal and correct.
Do you remeber some of the authors?
Of course! We have read the works of Ivana Brlić—Mažuranić, our famous writer of the fairy tales.  I remeber some books of Vladimir Nazor, August Šenoa, Dragutin Tadijanović, Dinko Šimunović, but also some foreighn authors  as Brothers Grimm, Emile Zole  and many others. I didn’t like them than, but today I found that book very  good and educative.
Did you like to read and were the books interesting?
Reading was an obligation, so we had to read the given books. The books were chosen by  our teacher and we  didn’t have  anything against it. Today we have your opinions about the books and that great. You could say what do you like and what you hate in the book.
After we have read the book, we wrote an analysis with the pen. Our teacher always asked a few questions about the  plot, to be sure that we had read the book. I remeber that there was some students who didn’t like to read, so they took notes from older students. Of course, during the tese they proved their laziness and got a negative mark.
Has the reading  left a nice mark in your memory?
Sure, like everything else related to school. Reading isn’t something bad. Reading improves your vocabullary. By composing and analysing our notes we  were creating our own literary work.
After this interview I  realized that the approaches in learning have been changed and that I have much more opportunities  in the sellection of books then my parents had in the past. We don’t write  analysis as they do, but we can talk about the books and give ours opinions. That’s better. I've  decided: I’ll read more than one book  per the month.

READING IN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY
The school library is the most visited place in our school. Although it is really small space, pupils like to share their thoughts with our librarian Mirjana. They have said she was warm and nice person and she always had time for them. Look what it's look like when pupils come to the school library.

April 23 - World Book Day and Copyright

We met with students to talk about reading.
We talked together on the question: Why should you read? Why do people today do not read books? We have read the section in your the literature, which was filmed: Michael Ondaatje The English Patient, Alice Walker The Color Purple, John Burnham Schwartz The road to forgiveness
Devoted much attention to the book, which is particularly suitable for young people Iqbal Francesco D'Adamo.Book Francesco D'Adamo is the true story of twelve-year-old boy from Pakistan - Iqbal Masih, who the world has become a symbol of the fight against the exploitation of child labor.
Raised in a poor peasant family, he was fired by his father into slave labor in exchange for $ 16, required the father to pay the obligation on the debt for the treatment of terminally ill second son. Iqbal worked - just like millions of children in the poorest countries of the world - from sunrise to new in inhumane conditions in the carpet factory, chained to their looms.
At just 11 years he found the strength to rebel, to believe that life can be different. His tenacity and courage contributed to the release of hundreds of other young slaves, though it came m to pay the highest price.
It is a very touching story about the indomitable struggle to regain freedom, the struggle with their own fears, about the struggle for a new tomorrow, a hope in hopelessness. He moves very well known in Poland, and very widely discussed in the world, the massive use of children in slave labor, children deprived of a normal life, love, carefree.
